Best Classical Intro for Kids

Symphonic music has long been associated with the silent frontier that is space, and Blast Off With the Nashville Symphony helped children explore outer space and classical music at the same time. NSO associate conductor Vinay Parameswaran and the Nashville Symphony took children and parents alike on a classical odyssey of galactic proportions. The trip began in our own solar system with Gustav Holst’s The Planets, an illustrative seven-piece suite with movements dedicated to each planet and its respective astrological character — Earth and dwarfy Pluto not included. From there the afternoon spiraled back in time to a faraway galaxy with selections from John Williams’ iconic Star Wars scores, a no-brainer for the occasion. It’s the mindful combination of familiarity and discovery that keeps the NSO’s Pied Piper series a vital source of childhood entertainment and enrichment, and Blast Off nailed it every moon bounce of the way.
