They’ve been using the same original recipe for their Chocolate Malt Cake for 45 years, baking and icing the rich triple-layer dessert daily. Not only do they sell up to 25 slices a day — one devotee recently picked up a cake on his way to the airport and flew home to Philadelphia with it on his lap. It has also been shipped as far as New Mexico, though it does not always arrive perfectly intact: After a shipping mishap resulted in a landslide of malt cake, a fan took a picture with her fork dipping into the chocolate debris and reported: “It still tastes great!”
