Rivergate Skate Center’s weekly Adult Skate Night is what I imagine it must have felt like in the heyday of roller-skating. It’s inspiring to watch the choreography, plus the impressive spins, dips and jumps. It’s endearing to watch people skate hand in hand and share tips. Participating requires some competence — no clinging to the wall, and be sure to stay within the flow of traffic. The mix of R&B music and lights, plus the lack of kids darting to and fro, makes for a peaceful environment. One really can’t think too hard about life’s troubles when you’re afraid of busting your ass, anyway.
