In the months since Marcie Allen Van Mol and her husband Derek Van Mol rebranded Anzie Blue as AB, they’ve made an effort to use the new Hillsboro Village venue space to host events that reflect their values, from political fundraisers to drag shows during the state legislature’s anti-drag crusade. But AB’s highest-profile event, held in conjunction with a collection of other small business owners and creative folks, was the alternative prom for Nashville Christian School senior B Hayes. Hayes, who is nonbinary, was denied admission to the school’s senior prom because they were wearing a pantsuit, rather than a dress. AB pulled out all the stops with live music, a rainbow cape for Hayes and a message of inclusion.
