In any reporting I’ve done involving people with disabilities, sources have pointed me to Elise McMillan. (And most of the time I tell them, “She pointed me to you!) It’s a testament to how respected and connected she is. The longtime leader of the Vanderbilt Kennedy University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities retired this year after more than 20 years of service. She was the founding faculty member of Next Steps at Vanderbilt, the first inclusive higher-education program in Tennessee, among a number of other leadership positions and accomplishments. In short, Vanderbilt hired two people to replace her.
