The poor Westin. When the luxury hotel first opened, everyone oohed and ahhed over their L27 rooftop bar with its striking glass-sided pool jutting out over downtown. Then the cranes next door at the JW Marriott just kept adding layers to the cake until they built their own dramatic signature bar and restaurant, Bourbon Steak, which towers seven stories above their neighbors. The view from Bourbon Steak’s bar and dining room is unrivaled in town, unless you happen to own a private plane that can fly you over downtown to gaze at the sweeping vistas of rolling hills surrounding the urban core — you know, the ones that we used to be able to see before we started building all these tall hotels.
