If you’ve seen pianist, singer and songwriter John Countryman play rock ’n’ roll at various venues around Nashville, you know he’s a first-rate musician whose playing evokes the glory days of Jerry Lee Lewis. Countryman, who was born in Newport News, Va., even portrayed Lewis in the national tour of the musical Million Dollar Quartet, which is about a legendary 1956 Memphis recording session that featured Sun Records stalwarts Lewis, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins. Countryman has Lewis’ hard-driving piano style down cold, and he’s also an engaging singer and songwriter — check out his 2025 album It’s Country, Man!
