When Cal’s Country Kitchen closed in 2021, it was the end of an era. Owner Carolyn Buggs wanted to retire, and while no one begrudged her the respite, the meat-and-three was resoundingly missed. Her son, Marcus Buggs, decided to close his Coneheads restaurant (rumor is you’ll still be able to get chicken in a waffle cone in a food truck) and reopen Cal’s Country Kitchen in its stead. He moved the old sign to the new spot, and many of his mom’s classic menu items are on a handwritten sign that changes daily. Just like the old days, expect a line.
