This cookbook is a rich collaboration between Nashville author Alice Randall and her daughter Caroline Randall Williams. It connects cooking with the authors’ family history stretching back a century, five women and five kitchens. “The kitchen has historically been a fraught place for many black Americans,” the authors write. “Our family is among the many.” The family history is absorbing, the health-conscious recipes (from Caroline’s kitchen) are simple and delicious, and the message of reclaiming the kitchen in a healthy way is inspirational.
