I spent all summer completely consumed by a lingering illness — World Cup Fever. And although I’m still heartbroken that Nashville wasn’t chosen as a host city by FIFA, Music City still made its impact on the summer’s main event via the Japanese Men’s National Soccer Team. Thanks in part to deep cultural ties between Middle Tennessee and Japan, the Samurai Blue chose Nashville as home base during the team’s spirited run to the World Cup knockout rounds. It marked the only time in history a monthlong group of couch crashers didn’t overstay their welcome.
