There’s no denying the consistent quality and appeal of favorites such as Riffs Fine Street Food, The Grilled Cheeserie, Deg Thai, Smokin’ Thighs and Delta Bound. But even though Smoke Et Al specializes in smoked meats — popular items include the sour-cream-and-sage “fiddlers biscuits” decked out with shredded smoked chicken, honey and green onions — they earn the nod this year for putting their smoker to good use even for those of us who don’t eat flesh. They offer salads, tacos and other entrées that feature smoked vegetables combined with other ingredients (e.g., field greens and house-made dressings) to make really compelling meals. Don’t miss the sides, though. The fried pickled okra (whole) served with ’Bama white sauce is a favorite.
