Whoa, Nelly. It’s been quite a year in Hollywood. With allegations of sexual assault levied at media bigwigs and cinema darlings, accusers and journalists revealed the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry. The Belcourt answered the call to face the music with a joint series. Fifty Cents for Your Soul: Women and the Show Business Boys Club featured a slew of classic titles, including Agnés Varda’s Jane B. par Agnés V., Dorothy Arzner’s Dance Girl Dance, and the 1933 starlet flick Bombshell, offering a sampling of representation throughout the 20th century. Accompanying the series was a three-part seminar about sexism in the industry, titled Hollywood’s Gender Problem, which was well-attended and got Nashville talking about all the gender inequities that contributed to sexual predation throughout the industry.
