Every scene needs its cheerleaders, and for the past several years you could count on Nashville Arts Magazine — and its publisher Paul Polycarpou — to be shouting encouragement at artists from the front row. When the publication shuttered in August after 109 issues, artists came out in droves to express their appreciation for the glossy mag and its coverage. Nashville art heavyweights like Frist curator Mark Scala and Metro Arts director Jen Cole both had regular Nashville Artscolumns, and Polycarpou was a generous, enthusiastic host for a variety of arts-related events, which was evident in the closing words of his last editorial letter: “Be kind and be thoughtful.” LAURA HUTSON HUNTER
