The Belcourt always has great film programs, but the arthouse theater’s monthlong Music City Mondays salute to the blaxploitation genre was definitely the most fun. Every Monday in July, Nashvillians were treated to films that deserve exclamation marks — Shaft! Super Fly! Coffy! Black Caesar! Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song! These five iconic ’70s films returned to the big screen and showed how stylish, sexy and cold-blooded black movie protagonists — and the movie stars who played them — were back in the day. CRAIG D.
