Julia Martin grew up around musicians, cut her teeth going to shows at the Springwater, and now has a gallery with a recording studio beneath it. So maybe it’s only natural that she invites musicians and performances into the art openings she hosts, but it’s still a refreshing charge of energy in the sometimes-stiff monthly ritual that is the art crawl. Savvy patrons of the art crawl will start the night at the Julia Martin Gallery, where there’s always a stellar array of sweet treats and cheese and crackers to snack on, then make their way back at the end of the night for drinks and live music. And did we mention the exhibits by Scene faves Josh Elrod, Merrilee Challiss and Martin herself? Our cup runneth over. LAURA HUTSON HUNTER
