I fear writing about any nonchain in 12South lest it immediately shutter, but Playdate is worth the risk — especially for parents. Once 12South leaves you sweaty, broke and beaten down, the small house turned restaurant with its spacious back porch and lawn is a perfect respite. The big blue-pink-and-white swirl slide is equal parts photo fodder and kids’ activity — our party’s 4- and 10-year-olds spent an hour on it with zero complaints — and they serve solid drinks and snacks. Plus the servers are as kind and patient with kids as they are with overserved bachelorettes, and that’s a tough line to walk.
