Congested parking lots and dog parks populate the heavily trodden trailheads of the Stones River Greenway, but a few miles into their connecting stretches, the greenway sings another tune. The hilly 15-mile path offers generous views of the Cumberland and Stone rivers, active cow pastures and various urban structures now reclaimed by thick wooded regrowth. Until the greenway system becomes further connected, Stones River is mile-for-mile the most diverse outing within county lines. MATT FOX
