With last year’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, Nashville-residing singer Sturgill Simpson became a sort of poster boy for country music’s shift toward forward-thinking, thoughtfully crafted, traditionally influenced performers. And it looks like Warner Music Group subsidiary Atlantic Records was paying attention, as it announced back in January that Simpson will issue his Metamodern follow-up via the label. Good call, Atlantic. You picked a winner.
