In October of last year, Paul Simon and sideman Mark Stewart played a benefit for the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Foundation at the mansion of philanthropist/socialite Sylvia Roberts. I’m not sure how a lowly scribe for Nashville’s weekly rag managed to slip into the home that serves as Rayna Jaymes’ house on TV’s Nashville (it’s true), but I got to see Simon play “The Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robinson” and covers of The Everly Brothers’ “All I Have to Do Is Dream” and The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun,” all for a good cause. Best house show of the year? Best house show ever.
