Will Sutton is a sculptor and skateboarder based in Chattanooga, and a former artist-in-residence at Chattanooga’s Stove Works. He told me all of this when I met him at his very first solo gallery show at Coop this summer. Tennessee Summer, Walter Forever is a display of found-material sculptures celebrating Southern skateboard and graffiti culture, dedicated to the memory of a fallen fellow skater. Sutton’s scattered cardboard sculptures of skate ramps, beer cans, pill bottles and replicas of legendary skateboarding shoes made for an immersive art experience that conjured the spirit of a subculture.
