I can’t stop writing about Nashville’s growing roster of independent curators, and John Holmes made a big impact on the scene this year, organizing and spotlighting Nashville’s new-media art scene. Holmes’ New Media Nashville started as a Meetup group before he took its virtual art IRL, hosting monthly open-house exhibitions of all things audio, video, time-based, digital, light-based, rendered, interactive, augmented and glitched. Holmes is filling a gap left by the closure of the Unrequited Leisure space at The Packing Plant, and he’s brought vision and organization to a local art sector that’s only becoming a bigger part of the contemporary art conversation.
