In January, Nashville-based multimedia artist Jodi Hays opened a two-gallery show — Befores and Afters — at David Lusk Gallery’s locations in Memphis and Nashville. The twin displays spoke to Hays’ prolific exhibition schedule and included the artist’s signature collage paintings as well as compelling stacked, found-object sculptures. Befores and Afters was emblematic of how Hays arrived at this successful midcareer point. It also showed that the artist’s ceaseless output continues to surprise as it evolves in interesting new directions.
