As much as I’d like to dedicate this entire Critic’s Pick to the strength of its title, attention must also be paid to glass artist Jennifer Crescuillo. She is one of the most interesting artists working in Nashville, and Deep Shit is a highlight of an already strong year of women-led art events. For this solo exhibition at Elephant Gallery, Crescuillo will showcase her unique kiln-fused glass objects, which are delicate and mighty all at once. Her artist website sums them up succinctly: “Art objects for the home of the weirdo and those with distinct taste.” My faves — and this will come as no surprise to regular readers — are her “Notty Boys Candlesticks,” which look a little like melted red wax that’s been sculpted into dirty candle holders, but are actually cast glass. I love when artists play with material and expectation. From her exhibition statement: “Deep Shit is a digestion of the world today. The sad, the happy, the futures we wish we were living, the present we find ourselves in. We’re in Deep Shit on many levels.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Opening reception 6-9 p.m.; through June 19 at Elephant Gallery

1411 Buchanan St.
