Critic's Pick: Geese

“Geese Never Thought They’d End Up Here,” reads a recent Rolling Stone headline. No, the mag isn’t talking about the long-necked water birds, but instead referencing the shaggy-haired New York indie-rock band (not to be confused with jam band Goose). Geese, having recently addressed the allegations that they are a psyop, are now set for a two-night stint at the Ryman in support of their 2025 record Getting Killed. The group of 20-somethings has come a long way since playing Nashville DIY venue Dkrmttr in 2023. Skyrocketing to indie fame and captained by lead man Cameron Winter (and his unnerving yet entrancing vocals), the group has become one of the bands of the 2020s. They’ve sold out concert venues across the world, captivating fans with heartfelt tracks like “Au Pays du Cocaine,” “Cobra” and “Taxes.” It’s these songs of love and innate irony that make Geese’s music magnetic, not to discount the epic energy of the full-fledged rock ’n’ roll tracks off 2023’s 3D Country. Welsh freak-folk instrumentalist Gwenifer Raymond will open.
