If there’s any musician’s work I could describe as pure ear candy — with all the necessary depth — it’s that of Dan Deacon. While the flawless production from the Baltimore-based electronic musician is certainly pleasant to the ear, it is also so much more than that. Deacon combines his experimental electronic and synth soundscapes with both upbeat and pensive, introspective lyrics to create works of music unlike anything else out there. Tracks “Become a Mountain” from his 2020 record Mystic Familiar and “Feel the Lightning” from 2015’s Gliss Riffer are must-listens. Aside from his traditional albums, Deacon’s catalog includes an array of work on film scores and a recent feature on Turnstile’s 2026 record. His score for National Geographic’s 2026 documentary Time and Water is an ethereal and emotionally moving piece of art that fans of Mort Garson’s Mother Earth’s Plantasia would surely enjoy. Deacon — known for his high-energy shows — is headed to Nashville for a set at The Basement East Sunday with support from Nashville-based indie synth-pop darlings Terror Pigeon.
