gwar

Those in the know will wear an outfit they don’t care about to see Gwar — or at least a rain poncho. There’s an infamous “splash zone” at the alien-themed shock-rock collective’s gigs, and anything from slime to simulated gore could rain on the crowd at their Sunday show at Brooklyn Bowl. Gwar has proven they cannot be defeated: not by time, which they’ve wrangled since their humble 1984 beginnings in a Richmond, Va., warehouse, and not by conservative internet reactionaries, whose feeble 2025 attempts at whipping up scandal over the band’s onstage antics have only added fuel to their satirical fire. In a genre dominated by incredibly self-serious acts, Gwar has long proven that heavy metal, at its core, is a little silly — just like wrestling and drag. There’s room to cover Chappell Roan and celebrate Terry Gross, besides.

7 p.m. at Brooklyn Bowl

925 Third Ave. N.
