Let’s be honest here: The death of Dolly Parton fucked us all up, and I’m quite certain people will be celebrating her life and legacy whenever and wherever they can. Before her passing, the Belcourt programmed a Music City Mondays showing of 9 to 5, her 1980 big-screen debut. Along with providing a classic theme song that shockingly didn’t win a Best Original Song Oscar, she shares the screen with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as office employees fed up with their dickheaded boss (Dabney Coleman, all mustache and male toxicity). The screening is already sold out, but thankfully, the Belcourt has set up two more screenings that day, giving all the Dolly fans in town a chance to watch this country angel on the big screen again. Rebecca Seaver, executive director for Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum, and Beth Abernathy, archive collection manager for The Dolly Archive, will both introduce the 8 p.m. showing. And don’t forget about the Dolly 9 to 5 costume exhibit that’ll also be at the theater.
