I was a 14-year-old high school freshman in 2015, scrolling through the depths of Tumblr when I discovered the “Space Song” off the record Depression Cherry by Beach House. The song (brand-new at the time, though Beach House formed in 2004) was my introduction to the Baltimore-based dream-pop band. I was immediately hooked. I remember describing to my friends that listening to “Space Song” felt like I was floating. Later, when I was 21 and on a first date with a boy who I would end up dating for two years, “Space Song” played at least three times as the coffee shop’s playlist looped. Maybe that was a bit of foreshadowing. Nevertheless, Beach House is a band that sticks with you. Their timeless, twinkling arrangements and synth-heavy sound have surely set the tone for plenty of the indie-pop acts that have emerged over the past 20 years. The group is now headed to Brooklyn Bowl on Sunday for a sold-out show.
