Baby Teeth Performance Lab first burst onto the scene in May, serving up Charlotte Jones’ tender two-hander Airswimming. Now this female-led indie theater company is back, presenting the U.S. premiere of Joel Horwood’s thought-provoking Wolves Are Coming for You. Originally produced in the U.K., the play follows a small village where a resident claims to have spotted a wolf on the outskirts of town. What follows is a fascinating exploration of rumor, truth, community, isolation and the fear of the unknown. The piece offers a unique exercise in collective imagination and the “theater of the mind,” with two actors taking on a total of 15 characters without the benefit of a traditional set. It also highlights “the importance that storytelling plays in human civilization, and how women have always been integral to passing on those stories.” Baby Teeth co-founder Elena Ramage is making her directorial debut with Wolves, and the cast includes Caroline Conner and another Baby Teeth co-founder, Kayla Enquist. The creative team also features a number of familiar faces, including sound designer Jacob Allen and lighting designer Rachel Rinehart — skilled artists, whose work we’ve recently seen at both Street Theatre and Nashville Rep.
