There’s something about an open-air concert that takes me right back to the summers of my childhood. Lazy evenings spent under the stars, good food, good music and watching my folks dance the night away. You can revisit this beloved summer tradition as Metro Parks Music and Creative Parks Nashville (in partnership with the Centennial Park Conservancy) welcome back their popular Big Band Dance series. Hosted by local radio legend Dave Eastman, Big Band Dance takes place at either the Parthenon Ellipse or Centennial Art Center, every Saturday through Aug. 15. Dynamic Ballroom and Performing Arts offers free lessons, starting at 7 p.m., with live music and dancing from 7:30 to 10. Guests are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, pack a picnic or visit one of the food trucks available on site. This weekend’s dance features the Lynn Beal Big Band, who’ll be serving up a great mix of big band classics and original jazz tunes at the Centennial Art Center. And keep an eye out for upcoming performances from The Jazz Alliance (July 25), The Establishment (Aug. 1), Five Points Swing (Aug. 8) and Moonlighters Big Band (Aug. 15).

Saturdays through Aug. 15 at Centennial Park

2500 West End Ave.
