Best Zoo Baby

A trip to Nashville Zoo at Grassmere isn’t complete without visiting the white-cheeked gibbons. Although not technically monkeys, these lesser apes welcome countless zoo patrons daily with playful swinging and infamous shrieking calls heard throughout the grounds. Recent visitors might have also noticed a small white ball of fur attached to one of the gibbons as she soars through the trees. That’s Singwah toting her adorable 4-month-old baby Makaio. With a name that is Laotian for “Gift of God,” Makaio was born June 5 and has since secured his position as the most adorable baby at the zoo. His cuteness is somewhat unconventional — he’s got black, piercing eyes set in a pink, wrinkly face and a surprisingly strong hairline, and he looks kind of like a little Leonard Nimoy. But who are you to judge? It will be a while before we get to watch Makaio roaming out on his own, but for now we can ogle from afar via the zoo’s routine photo updates. MATT FOX
