Jeannie Alexander is a former prison chaplain who worked at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. She has been active in the advocacy community for years, first working with people experiencing homelessness and then moving on to fight the prison system. Now she runs a nonprofit called the No Exceptions Prison Collective, a group that advocates for prison abolition, or, at the bare minimum, adequate treatment for people living behind bars. Whether it’s providing support to families of those behind bars, meeting with public officials or organizing with other activists, Alexander has made it clear she won’t remain silent. AMANDA HAGGARD
