For those who travel Thompson Lane during rush hour, the daunting stretch from 100 Oaks to Nolensville Pike is a nightmarish combination of traffic lights, haphazard two-lane merging and cemetery views. But there’s a calm to every storm, and this commute’s captain takes the form of a street sousaphonist. Joe Hunter — aka the Tubatroll — celebrates the time we spend stressed behind the wheel by performing impromptu concerts for anyone within earshot. As he busks in the Thompson Lane tunnel on any given weekday afternoon, the sound of Hunter’s sousaphone bounces off the concrete walls with resounding force, creating a surreal sort of concert hall to break the tedium for commuters.
