Best Trail That No One Seems to Know About

While it’s tempting to try to run everyone off by telling them this park reeks of festering offal and is prowled by vicious mutant bears, that would just be rude. Though it’s only about as far from downtown as Radnor Lake or Percy Warner Park, White’s Creek still has the feel of a remote rural area, and perhaps that’s why the wooded trails of Alvin G. Beaman Park are some of the least crowded you’ll find inside city limits. Under its lush green canopy, you’ll find a two-mile amble up and down modest grades on the face of the Highland Rim, plus an additional two-mile “there-and-back-again” trail. Intersections with tributaries to the Little Marrowbone Creek and Bull Run Creek make for some lovely spots to stop and just enjoy being in a place that looks like a living painting. Bring good shoes and a bottle of water and get exploring! STEPHEN TRAGESER
