A year ago, Mikky Ekko was a talented but relatively unknown performer and songwriter, channeling Jeff Buckley with his own grand, introspective pop ballads. But then he co-wrote, co-produced and performed guest vocals on “Stay,” the second single from pop superstar Rihanna’s Unapologetic. The pair performed “Stay” on the Grammys, Ekko appeared in the sensuous music video, and “Stay” shot up the charts, becoming Rihanna’s 24th Top 10 single (surpassing Whitney Houston’s record as the female performer with the highest number of Top 10 hits). You’d better believe people know Ekko’s name now.
