Superdrag

Beloved Knoxville-based alternative rock outfit Superdrag returns to Music City for the first time since 2009 to headline a trio of shows at Eastside Bowl Thursday through Saturday. The quartet — John Davis (lead vocals, guitar), Brandon Fisher (lead guitar), Tom Pappas (bass) and Don Coffey Jr. (drums) — has been working on new music, and fans can expect to hear a new song or two this weekend. “We’re hoping to have a new record out next year,” Davis tells the Scene. “That’s our goal.” Superdrag had been on a lengthy hiatus when the four original members reconvened in 2021 for a series of interviews marking the 40th anniversary of WUTK, the student-run radio station at the University of Tennessee. The following year, they gave a headlining performance at Knoxville’s Second Bell Music Festival. Since then, the band has played shows in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. At Eastside Bowl, they will play an intimate, unplugged show in The ’58 room Thursday night, admission to which will be limited to those with a three-day pass. They will follow that with full-electric performances in the main venue on Friday and Saturday. Bobby Bare Jr. will open Friday’s show, while Sound&Shape will kick off the music on Saturday.
