ABE Honou

Actors Bridge Ensemble closes out its 30th anniversary season this weekend with the Nashville premiere of Joanna Murray-Smith’s celebrated play Honour. Written in 1995 — the very same year ABE opened its doors — it’s a meaty work that follows the sudden collapse of a 32-year marriage. Described as “darkly comic, highly poetic and uncompromisingly savage,” Honour takes on timeless themes of love, betrayal and sacrifice, making it a natural choice for ABE. But beyond the script itself, there’s also an interesting lineage at work here. You see, this production of Honour is being directed by Lori Triolo, an award-winning actor, director and master teacher who studied under Sanford Meisner at The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. And starring in the title role? None other than ABE co-founder and producing artistic director Vali Forrister, who has led Nashville’s only dedicated Meisner training program for the past 30 years. The rest of the cast is also Meisner-trained, including Ross Bolen, Caroline Conner and Jillian Rice. It’s an exciting lineup and a fitting milestone for one of Nashville’s most respected theater companies.
