It’s not an official release party, but Anana Kaye’s show at The 5 Spot Saturday night will be the singer-songwriter-keyboardist’s first Nashville performance of songs from her superb new album, Are You There? Released on March 20, Are You There? is her first full-length album as a solo artist. It’s an atmospheric and achingly beautiful record that addresses the twin themes of war and grief — she experienced both as a native of the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. The album was produced by Charlie Chamberlain and co-produced by Kaye and her husband, songwriting partner and guitarist Irakli Gabriel, who is also a native of Georgia. It’s the follow-up to Whispers and Sighs, the duet album released in 2021 that she recorded with the late, great singer-songwriter David Olney. Kaye and Gabriel will perform material from both albums on Saturday, as well as something from one of her earlier EPs. Their set will also feature some songs not yet released. “Like most artists, we also want to play the new songs,” Kaye tells the Scene. “So we’re gonna play a few songs that are not recorded yet.” Jazzy singer-songwriter Blonde Bullet is also on the bill.
