Paz Suay: 'Anew: Elementary and Secondary Practice'

Valencia-born, Nashville-based artist Paz Suay brings a quietly rigorous sensibility to her first Nashville solo show at Coop Gallery. Anew is rooted in Suay’s background in architecture, art education and the sun-blasted Mediterranean landscape of her homeland. The exhibition reflects Suay’s interest in the visual alphabet and her background as a graphic designer. She organizes Anew around two connected series: Elementary Practice, which explores the foundations of form through restraint, repetition and deliberate selections of materials, and Secondary Practice, which expands the language of the initial series through scale, gesture and greater freedom. Together they describe an evolving examination of visual form built from fundamentals that ultimately inspire personal style. These ambitious multimedia works include drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, paper and wood in a palette that ranges from chalky whites and slate blacks to clay reds and earth tones. Suay’s exhibition is supported by a Metro Arts Thrive Grant and pops up for three days only.
