Esteemed drive-in movie critic and The Last Drive-In host Joe Bob Briggs (aka the Robert Osborne of cult cinema) will be back in Nashville for a Music City Mondays double feature. (Let’s hope his trusty sidekick Darcy the Mail Girl is also present.) First up is Don Coscarelli’s Bubba Ho-Tep, a 2002 horror-comedy that ponders what would happen if an alive and elderly Elvis Presley (played here by B-movie hero Bruce Campbell) went toe to toe with an ancient Egyptian mummy in a Texas nursing home. Then we take it back to 1979 with the Roger Corman-produced Rock ’n’ Roll High School — the only teensploitation musical comedy that features a wall-to-wall soundtrack from punk icons/co-stars the Ramones as they help a teen fan (Halloween’s P.J. Soles) revolt against her rock-banning principal (Mary Woronov). Along with emceeing the festivities, Briggs will also host a meet-and-greet and sell exclusive merch. Pop-up video store Emergency Movie Services will be right outside in the parking lot during the event.
