We are so lucky Beck keeps getting his heart broken. Every time it happens, he churns out a masterpiece album. Beck’s latest, Ride Lonesome, caps his “heartbreak trilogy,” which started with 2002’s Sea Change — famously written in a single week — and its spiritual successor Morning Phase from 2014. His current tour is the best show I’ve seen all year. But you better like Ride Lonesome if you plan on attending, because he’s made it clear this is not for fans who just want to hear his hits. The true Beck-heads will be richly rewarded with a night in the presence of an artistic genius. (Yeah, I said it.) He has meticulously designed every detail, including different set pieces and lighting for each song, highlighting his range as a songwriter and a downright stylish dude. He even includes a few songs he hasn’t played live in 20 years and some reworked versions of his hits. After all, he doesn’t want to break our hearts.
