After 40-plus years of producing influential national stars, and despite the internet flattening much of the uniqueness derived from regional pockets of pop culture, Memphis’ rap scene has maintained a distinct sense of localism. New headliners like GloRilla may not be full-on horrorcore in the vein of ’90s heavy hitters like Three 6 Mafia, but they still have that energetic, Southern-fried Bluff City sound on the mic. After breaking through with the Grammy-nominated viral hit “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” in 2022, GloRilla has pumped out a steady stream of athletic lyrical exercises like “Tomorrow,” “Yeah Glo!” and “TGIF.” Head out to our newest midsize music venue on Nov. 4 to further cement the Nashville-Memphis hip-hop alliance.
