Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is a tough watch. In David Lynch’s cult-classic prequel, we spend the film falling more in love with Laura Palmer throughout her final days — all the while knowing the grisly ending that awaits her. But the film provides something that the TV series doesn’t. While Twin Peaks captures perfectly how one person can mean so many different things to different people, Fire Walk With Me gives us the ability to actually know and follow Laura, instead of piecing together her life from afar. Plus, there’s additional lore and threads to chase for die-hard fans: What happened to Annie Blackburn? Who was Teresa Banks? And why is David Bowie putting on a Southern accent? It’s not technically screening as part of the Belcourt’s Bleak Week series, but it’s fitting that Fire Walk With Me shows at the theater on June 24, one night after that series wraps. Local nonprofit attorney and domestic violence advocate Tiffany Trussell will give an intro.
