Critic's Pick: The War and Treaty w/AverySunshine & Buddy Miller

The War and Treaty — the Nashville-based husband-and-wife duo featuring vocalists Tanya Blount and Michael Trotter Jr. — has been on one hell of a creative streak. In June, the group debuted The Story of Michael and Tanya, a 10-song album that captures The War and Treaty’s penchant for blurring the lines between show-stopping soul music, country twang and roots rock. The album features collaborations with Valerie June and Wynonna Judd (on the crooning country song “Reclaim All of Your Time”) and continues to build on the group’s catalog of repeat-worthy tunes (like standout album cut “Don’t Say Goodbye”). But wait — there’s more. Trotter and Blount doubled down on new music in 2026 with Country Baptism, a seven-song EP that debuted Sept. 4. And where better to celebrate a release called Country Baptism than the Mother Church of Country Music? Support on the bill comes from Grammy Award-winning R&B artist AverySunshine and Buddy Miller, a celebrated songwriter and producer in the Americana scene. Miller also plays the Ryman in support of a new album called Buddy Miller, debuting Sept. 11 on New West Records. The 12-song album is his first solo full-length studio effort in 15 years.
