Critic's Pick: Juanes

Juanes is that dude. The Colombian rocker blew up internationally with his 2002 sophomore album Un Dia Normal and its single “A Dios le Pido,” a rousing call for peace, and has remained one of the most successful Latin artists of the century, drawing crowds and notching nominations and wins from both the Latin and Gringo Grammys for two decades. Along the way he’s dipped into genres like cumbia, covered Metallica, and worked with pop artists like Nelly Furtado and Kali Uchis. His appearance at the Mother Church is overdue — a 2020 stop was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic — but it’s hard to think of a more fitting stage for the singular, soulful act.
