Critic's Pick — Lackland Arts Collective: 'Twelfth Night'

Twelfth Night might be one of Shakespeare’s queerest plays. Hinging on drag and a bisexual love triangle — the true kind, where all three points touch — it’s a delightful romantic comedy about upending gender and social norms that’s seen reinterpretations, from a 1996 film adaptation starring Helena Bonham Carter to the 2006 teen comedy She’s the Man. The September second-stage production of the show from Lackland Arts Collective makes that queerness explicit, and sets it in present-day Nashville to the music of indie-rock artist Indigo de Souza. Performances run from Sept. 11 to 20, and tickets are reasonably priced for a night of debaucherous community fun.
