Critic's Pick — The Long Players: The Songs & Sounds of the British Invasion

World’s greatest tribute band The Long Players returns to the 3rd and Lindsley stage Saturday for a theme night celebrating the music of the 1960s British Invasion. “We’re going to try to hit the high points,” group ringleader/guitarist Bill Lloyd tells the Scene. “The Kinks, The Who, The Dave Clark Five, Petula Clark, The Animals, The Zombies, The Yardbirds, The Hollies, Peter and Gordon, Herman’s Hermits. There will be Beatles and Stones songs too.” Founding bassist Garry Tallent of E Street Band fame will join Long Players regulars Lloyd, guitarist Steve Allen and drummer Steve Ebe for the performance. The group’s current bassist Brad Jones will be among the guest vocalists, as will Seth Timbs, who also will be playing keyboards. Other guest singers include Robyn Hitchcock, The Rembrandts’ Phil Solem, Webb Wilder, Mike Delevante, The Shazam’s Hans Rotenberry, Kristi Rose, The Don Juans (Don Henry and Jon Vezner), Tommy Lee James, Heath Haynes, Jace Everett and Chris Church. Usually when the group performs a classic album, they follow it with a set of other material by the spotlighted artist, but Saturday’s theme show will feature one long set. “There will be some acoustic [numbers] in the middle to break things up a little bit,” Lloyd says.
