I was in London recently and wandered into a small neighborhood bookstore. They were setting up for an event, but said I could stay and shop. It turns out the event was a book club meeting for Martyr! in which the author, Kaveh Akbar, was Zooming in for the discussion. Local friends, I am pleased to tell you that you can have this experience without buying an international flight. The Green Ray is hosting a book club meeting for Martyr! — Akbar’s debut novel about a newly sober poet who is the son of Iranian immigrants — and the author will Zoom in for a Q&A. Real Martyr!-heads know Akbar was scheduled to come to Nashville in 2025 for the paperback release, but had to cancel, so this seems like a fantastic way to see Akbar, support a really cool store and maybe grab a coffee beforehand from the Earl at Paloma nearby.
