In and of itself, getting name-checked on The Colbert Report is a good thing for Nashville’s beloved independent bookstore, but this one was extra fun. Last time shop proprietor Ann Patchett was on the show, Stephen Colbert told the audience to order her novel State of Wonder from Amazon — to which Patchett objected beautifully and pointedly. This time around, Colbert name-dropped Parnassus at the end of a long rant against the online giant (which is still battling Colbert’s publisher Hachette), adding yet another feather to Patchett’s accomplished cap.
