Get ready to sweat! High-octane rocker J Roddy Walston brings his new outfit The Automatic Band to Nashville Saturday night for a show in The Blue Room at Third Man Records. Of his live performances, singer-songwriter-pianist Walston told The Pop Break, “It’s alive. If the vibe is right, the room is right and the crowd is right — it’s pretty explosive. Everyone’s dripping in sweat.” The Richmond, Va.-based Walston, who has been described as a “piano-playing chaos merchant” and a “force of nature,” fuses Southern rock, classic rock, blues, metal and funk into high-energy, roof-raising rock ’n’ roll. Born in Cleveland, Tenn., Walston and his original band The Business rose to national prominence and built a devoted following in the 2010s on the strength of their rock radio hit “Heavy Bells” and their incendiary performances opening for the likes of Drive-By Truckers, Deer Tick and Lucero. Walston parted ways with The Business in 2019 and did his first show backed by The Automatic Band in July 2025. His performances with the new band have mostly featured songs from his time with The Business, with some newer material mixed in. Nashville-based rockers DeeOhGee will open the show.
